The U.S. government has launched the largest denaturalization campaign in history. Could your citizenship be at risk? Read our latest legal alert to understand the new DOJ and DHS actions against immigration fraud.

The current administration has launched what officials describe as the “largest denaturalization effort in history,” sending a clear message: U.S. citizenship obtained through fraud or lack of moral character can be revoked.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the initiation of legal actions in district courts to revoke the citizenship of 10 naturalized individuals. According to the Immigration and Nationality Act, citizenship can be canceled if it was obtained illegally, by concealing material facts, or through false statements.

Who is Being Targeted?

The first cases filed in the last 30 days involve individuals from Mexico, Cuba, Pakistan, Peru, and Poland. The allegations include:

  • Financial Fraud: A citizen of Cuban origin in Miami is accused of defrauding Medicare of more than $880,000 prior to naturalization.
  • Serious Crimes: This includes cases of sexual abuse of minors committed by former priests and other individuals, as well as conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
  • Identity Fraud: Actions against those who used aliases or purchased identity documents to obtain their residency and subsequent citizenship.

Official Statements

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin was emphatic on July 20, 2026, stating: “When you commit fraud during the naturalization process, you lose the right to retain your U.S. citizenship.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General Brett A. Shumate warned that this is just the beginning: “We have only scratched the surface; many more complaints are coming.”
